Here's all Dad's French stories. Watch this space as we post regularly each week @WhatDadCooked.
A perfect winter warmer – Cassoulet!
Leo and his partner took Mr and Mrs WDC to Brasserie Zédel. As so many people have commented, the highlight is the steak haché. Here’s my version.
Salmon en croute are brilliant – part pie, part pastie, part Salmon Wellington – what’s not to like?
We didn’t eat Chicken Kiev when we were growing up – we had cordon bleu instead. They’re a lot easier than a Kiev but just as tasty. Great for kids.
A simple way to cook trout – and prehaps the best.
‘Here in the WDC household, we love sandwiches – and when Dad says he’s popping of to our local butchers, CD Jennings & Sons, you know it’s going to be a special sandwich!’
‘A regional speciality of Austria, Germany and Northern Italy, the sauerkraut mellows beautifully from slow cooking, blending well with the sweetness from the apples and meat…’
‘Summers here a what better time for the French classic Salad Niçoise!’
‘I’m a big fan of cake, especially chocolate cake! Even more so when it’s my birthday!’
‘Since our trip to Belgo Centraal in Seven Dials, it only seems right that Dad should teach us how to make Moules Marinière.’
‘I never knew the 9th December was National Pastry Day! So I informed Dad… and this is what he conjured up!’
‘Dad text me saying he’d made Pithiviers, and I was thinking “…a what now!?” – One bite and I couldn’t stop…’
‘So this was an interesting dish, who cooks octopus on a Thursday evening?’
‘Another SOS meal… Saturday morning and there’s a couple eggs left and a bunch of leftovers, what does Dad do..?’
